Alison Thorburn
Supportive Housing Services Cluster Lead
Micah Projects
Alison has worked within the community sector for 20 years. She has seen the intersectionality between homelessness and domestic and family violence through her work in housing and homelessness, women’s health, and sexual assault services. Alison was a foundational staff member of Townsville’s Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and is a passionate advocate for Housing First, applying this framework when working with people experiencing homelessness across any cohort. She has also completed Homelessness Australia’s Housing First Train the Trainer program.
Alison currently leads Micah Projects’ Supportive Housing and Sustaining Tenancies Cluster, which includes support services at Queensland’s first and longest-operating single-site supportive housing building, Brisbane Common Ground, as well as Homestay and Keeping Families Together—a scattered-site supportive housing program for 20 families in Brisbane—and a single-site complex housing 18 families. In addition, she leads two Domestic and Family Violence programs, including the Safer Lives Mobile Service, a dynamic 24/7 outreach service that supports women experiencing domestic and family violence to find safe accommodation and housing pathways. Alison has also successfully led Brisbane’s Domestic and Family Violence Housing Connectors pilot.
