Martin Shaw
Veteran Advocate
Wounded Heroes Australia
Martin Shaw is a nationally recognised veteran advocate and the driving force behind Wounded Heroes Australia — the country’s only 24/7, 365-day crisis charity supporting current serving members, veterans, and their families. For more than a decade, Martin has dedicated his life to ensuring that no Australian who serves is left to face crisis alone.
A tireless leader with a deep understanding of the hardships faced by defence families, Martin has built Wounded Heroes into a rapid-response organisation trusted across Australia. His work has helped tens of thousands of veterans and families access emergency financial aid, crisis accommodation, mental-health stabilisation support, and welfare assistance at the most critical moments of their lives.
Martin’s impact has been recognised through some of Queensland’s highest community honours. In 2024, he received the Queensland Mental Health Commission Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to mental-health support for veterans. In 2025, he was named both the Ipswich Citizen of the Year and a Queensland Day Local Legend, and under his leadership, Wounded Heroes was awarded Community Group of the Year.
Known for his compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to service, Martin continues to champion sustainable, community-driven support through initiatives like Jim’s Café, Coffee4Heroes, and Wounded Heroes Veteran Centres.
He is not just a leader — he is a voice for those who cannot speak and a lifeline for those who have lost hope.
Martin Shaw’s work reminds us that supporting veterans is not an obligation — it is a responsibility we all share.
