Michael Houston
Founder
Roadz of Life
Michael's foundation comes from seeing a large intersection within social services including disabilities, mental health, AOD, homelessness, family and youth. He believes community service models must be the voice of the people, lived experience central, respected, validated and properly utilized. Behind funding, stakeholders and red tape, genuine advocacy only becomes active when driven by the consumer, not those that seek to profit or control. In 2012 Michael developed a neurological movement disorder & severe cognitive impairment. Journaling the recovery from his severe disability on camera, he inadvertently created the documentary 'Roadz Of Life', also interviewing strangers experiencing extreme life circumstances. His Roadz Of Life YouTube channel has gained over 1 million subscribers and the feature film is expected to be released internationally in the next two years. This gives him a large platform for impact. Prior to his disability, he had extensive experience in social work, youth work, AOD, mental health both as a leader, mentor, educator, group facilitator and support worker. Michael advocates & facilitates public discussion surrounding the topics & social issues the documentary explores. Volunteering time, knowledge, resources and consultation to impact change. Michael is a skilled artist, film maker, writer and confident public speaker.
